Residents have the perfect chance to learn about local history and landmarks during Heritage Open Days (8-17 Sep).
Every September across the country, museums, galleries, churches and more open their doors to give people a chance to explore architecture, history and culture – and all for free.

- Bury Archaeological Group – Saturday 16 September – focusing on Bury town centre around the Parish Church, Bury Castle site and Gallipoli Garden
- St Gabriel’s Parish Church, Prestwich – on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 Sep.
- Fusilier Museum – Friday 8 Sep. Learn the story about Bury’s 300-year historical links with the Lancashire and Royal Regiment of Fusiliers.
- Radcliffe Parish Church – Friday to Saturday, 8-10 Sep. Dates back to the Domesday Book!
- Bury Unitarian Church – tours on 9, 10, 16 and 17 Sep.
- East Lancashire Railway – on Sundays 10 and 17 Sep. Includes the Castlecroft sheds and Bury Transport Museum.
- Bury Town Hall – Friday 15 Sep, conducted by former Mayor of Bury Trevor Holt, culminating with refreshments in the mayor’s parlour.
- Bury Art Museum – Friday 15 Sep. Talk about Bury Castle, which dates back to 1469, and the history of Bury in the Middle Ages and during the War of the Roses.
- Bury Parish Church – on 15, 16 and 17 Sep. Includes on Friday a concert by Chetham’s School of Music, and on Sunday a Battle of Britain service.
- The Met – Saturday 16 Sep. Hear the story about the town’s famous arts venue, with family workshops and behind the scenes access.
- St Mary’s Church, Prestwich – Saturday 16 Sep. conducted by local historians, including churchyard tours and children’s activities.
