Hotel expansion approved

A hotel on the edge of Bury and Heywood will be expanded to create space for 30 new bedrooms.

Village Hotel and Leisure Club in Waterfold Business Park applied for planning permission to expand their facility in order to meet rising demand. The 128-bedroom hotel boasts conference rooms, a gym, swimming pool, a pub and a Starbucks Coffee Shop.

The original application proposed a 34-bedroom extension, but plans have been scaled back since then.

The latest scheme, approved by Rochdale council, will see a four-storey extension to the south side of the existing hotel. Three floors of the extension would provide additional accommodation to the hotel and the lower ground floor will become an open area.

To make room for the new extension, eight parking spaces would have to be removed. This would leave 363 parking spaces available.

Planning papers read: “This proposal not only aligns with the Village Hotel’s brand and operational needs but also delivers a high-quality, sustainable, and accessible extension that will contribute positively to its surroundings, improve user experience, and minimise environmental impact.

“It balances modern functionality with respect for the existing built and natural environment, ensuring long-term viability and value for the site.”

Village Hotels is a UK-wide leisure chain that has four sites across the Greater Manchester region already. Their site in Ashton-under-Lyne was granted approval for a 48-bedroom extension last year.
