A series of community improvements have been completed in Langley following investment from Rochdale Borough Council’s 3.5 million pound Ward Capital Fund.
Councillors for West Middleton allocated 175 thousand pounds from the borough wide scheme to deliver traffic calming measures, road upgrades, resident parking areas and improved footways in the area.
Among the completed works are refurbished speed humps on Knight Crescent, new resident parking spaces on Windermere Road and improved parking areas and footpaths around Rowrah Crescent.
A further 7 thousand 500 pounds has been used to improve facilities at Truffet Park, off Bowness Road.
The Ward Capital Fund provides 175 thousand pounds to each of the 20 wards across Heywood, Middleton, the Pennines and Rochdale. Decisions on how the funding is spent are taken at local level by ward councillors.
Councillor Phil Burke said:
“Through listening to local residents we have responded to their requests for new facilities in the community. These long overdue schemes will make Langley quieter, safer and an even better place to live. Local people have been at the heart of how this money will be spent and, as local councillors, we have listened to our residents and delivered on their priorities.”
Council leader Councillor Neil Emmott said:
“These are important bread and butter community initiatives that are resident priorities and exactly what the Ward Capital Fund is for – listening to local people and delivering on what matters most in their area. I am really proud of this package of investment and the positive difference it is making in Langley and the wider West Middleton Ward.”
Councillor Sue Smith said the funding had helped deliver improvements residents had asked for. She said:
“This is about investing in the future, delivering on local priorities and ensuring residents across the Langley community are at the heart of local decision-making, which is why the Ward Capital Fund is such a great initiative to help improve people’s lives.”
