Local students shine as Rochdale Sixth Form celebrates standout A Level results

A morning of pride and celebration unfolded at Rochdale Sixth Form College as students, parents, and staff gathered to mark an exceptional A Level results day filled with ambition and success.

Rochdale Sixth Form College was awash with smiles and applause this morning as students picked up their results and shared stories of hard work paying off. Among them was Wayne, who earned an A in psychology and A grades in chemistry and biology. He is now heading to the University of Manchester to study optometry, aiming for a future career as an optician.

Councillor Rachel Massey was present to congratulate students, including Amy, who achieved an outstanding four A*s and will soon begin her English and history studies at the University of Warwick, with plans for a future masters degree.

The college also celebrated vocational success, with Calum earning DD C in his BTEC qualifications. He secured one of only 25 places on the University of Huddersfield’s paramedic science course, out of over 800 applicants.

Meanwhile, Conrad, who received an A* in art and design alongside two B grades in mathematics and business, is preparing to study archaeology at the University of Manchester.

Fellow student Ibrahim is heading to Cambridge University to study physical natural sciences after achieving an impressive set of results: three A*s and two As.

In a touching moment, assistant director for schools and inclusion Jane received the good news from her daughter Martha via phone. Martha’s two distinctions and a B secured her place at Liverpool John Moores University to study events management.

Saira, another aspiring optometrist, is now bound for the University of Bradford after achieving an A in psychology and two Bs in chemistry and biology.

There were plenty of group celebrations too. Friends Isra, Wanea and Iman are each embarking on different journeys, Isra will study business management at Manchester Metropolitan University, Wanea has offers to study law, and Iman is taking a gap year before seeking a degree apprenticeship.

Councillor Rachel Massey, portfolio holder for children’s services and education, addressed students at the end of the visit. She said:

“What a fantastic achievement by all our students here in Rochdale. I am incredibly proud of each and every one of you. Whatever your next steps are, I hope you achieve everything you want in the future. Congratulations once again and have a fantastic day celebrating your achievements.”

She also reminded students that support is available for anyone unsure of what to do next, encouraging them to reach out to their college if they need guidance or simply someone to talk to.

Staff at the college were also commended for their dedication, with many students acknowledging the vital role their teachers and support workers played in their success.
