NHS service launches same-day mental health support for Rochdale's young people

Young people across Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale can now book same-day appointments with the #Thrive mental health team as part of a new NHS support model.

An NHS mental health service for children and teenagers in Rochdale is launching same-day appointments to replace its previous drop-in system.

The #Thrive service, which helps young people up to 19 years old with emotional wellbeing, will begin the new booking system from Tuesday 25 November 2025.

Operated by Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust, #Thrive is based at Croft Shifa Health Centre in Rochdale. It supports children and teenagers who may be feeling stressed, anxious, low, or simply not enjoying life as they normally would.

Families will be able to call 0161 529 7458 between 9am and 11am on Tuesdays and Thursdays to secure a same-day appointment, which will then be scheduled between 12pm and 4pm on that same afternoon.

The changes will apply to any young person up to the age of 19 who either lives in or has a GP in Heywood, Middleton or Rochdale.

The final drop-in clinic will take place on Thursday 13 November. There will be a short pause in service on Tuesday 18 and Thursday 20 November to allow staff to prepare for the change.

Lisa Slater, service lead for early years and early help at Pennine Care, said:

“Our goal is to make it easy for more families to access support when they need it most.

“#Thrive’s same-day appointments will offer early help for young people who are feeling stressed, worried, anxious or not enjoying things. Please get in touch if you need us.”

A trained mental health professional will meet with young people during the booked appointment to listen, understand what is affecting their wellbeing, and suggest support options.

The team at #Thrive moved into their new base at Croft Shifa Health Centre earlier this year. Future plans include expanding same-day support into other parts of Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale to increase access even further.
