The achievements of Rochdale’s teachers, tutors, support staff and education professionals are to once again be officially celebrated as the borough’s education awards return for a second year.
This announcement follows on from last year’s inaugural ‘Educate Rochdale Awards’, which were hugely successful and shone a light on the outstanding contributions of individuals and teams across local schools and colleges.
Rebranded this year as the ‘Raising Rochdale Education Awards’, this event is sponsored by The Ogden Trust and is set to take place on Friday 14 November during a special ceremony at Rochdale Town Hall.
Nominations are now open for pupils, parents, carers, governors and school staff to acknowledge the dedication and hard work of those shaping the future of education in the borough.
From teachers and support staff who go the extra mile to teams delivering outstanding work in science, sport, mental health, wellbeing, and sustainability, entries will demonstrate the talent, innovation and commitment we see every day across Rochdale.
Event organiser, Andrew Bridson, who is also headteacher of Cardinal Langley RC High School, said: “We are delighted to bring these awards back for a second year and recognise the hard work and dedication of those who help to make a real difference to the lives of our children and young people.
“Alongside parents and carers, ours schools and colleges play a significant role in raising the ambitions of our next generation, so I encourage everyone to nominate someone or a team that they believe is deserving of this recognition.”
Councillor Rachel Massey, portfolio holder for children’s services and education, added: “As a parent, you always want the best for your child, and the people who shape their education play such a huge role in their future.
“That is why I am excited to see the return of these awards, as we get to thank those who make a real difference to the lives of our children and young people.
“By recognising these efforts, we’re helping to ‘Raise Rochdale’ and ensure every child has the opportunity to succeed, so please make a nomination today."
Seventeen categories are up for grabs this time round, including teacher and tutor of the year, school/college of the year, and special awards for areas including commitment to science education.
Nominations are open until Friday 11 July and can be submitted via the council’s website
