End Of Beginning

Work on Radcliffe’s Civic Hub project begins

Credit: Bury Council

The upcoming developments will focus on an innovative Civic hub, providing a new home for Radcliffe Leisure Centre and Radcliffe Library.

Working together with other council services, the Hub hopes to present learning opportunities and an open community space for the people of Radcliffe.

Councillor Eamonn O’Brien spoke of his excitement for this new development and is encouraging people to get involved in the future shaping of the town: “This will be a tremendous year for Radcliffe, as regeneration of the town gets underway in earnest.”

He added: “Unprecedented levels of investment are going into transforming the centre. New community and leisure facilities, new opportunities for businesses, a new high school and new housing on brownfield land – all of this will make a real difference for generations to come.”

The work will involve:

  • Site surveys of the Market Chambers building and Market Basement to support the project’s development.
  • Trial utility pits (excavation work to assess ground conditions and locate existing underground utility services).
  • The introduction of temporary fencing to secure the work and protect pedestrians.

From today, preparatory works will begin in the Radcliffe Piazza area for approximately 8 weeks.

Rest assured, any noise and disruption are to be kept to a minimum and access to businesses will be maintained at all times.

Radcliffe Carnival will also go ahead as planned this Saturday (June 4th) and is not to be affected.
