Greater Manchester Police have confirmed a comprehensive policing operation is in place as the Brit Awards take place in Manchester for the first time. The ceremony will be held tonight at the Co Op Live arena.
Manchester is hosting the Brit Awards for the first time in its near fifty year history on Friday 28 February, with artists, industry figures and fans expected to attend the ceremony at Co Op Live.
Greater Manchester Police said officers have worked closely with organisers from the venue and the awards team to help ensure the event runs safely. Dedicated officers will support venue security teams and provide reassurance to those attending.
Neighbourhood officers have liaised with the council and local residents in the lead up to the event to address any concerns. Specialist operations teams have also put plans in place to respond to potential incidents.
Operation Servator officers have been deployed in the weeks before the ceremony. The tactic is designed to disrupt criminal activity and maintain a visible presence.
Chief Superintendent John Paul Ruffle of Greater Manchester Police said
“We have welcomed numerous huge music events to Greater Manchester over the last year from the ever present Parklife to the MTV Music Awards and each require a full and dedicated policing operation.
Our officers are highly experienced at policing events of this nature and we have worked closely with organisers and partners to make sure there is minimum disruption.
We will have a highly visible policing operation with those officers happy to help you with whatever you need. We highly encourage fans and attendees to plan their journey well ahead of time checking Transport for Greater Manchester for the most appropriate routes.
We would always urge people to remain vigilant and for anyone who sees anything suspicious to report it to police or security immediately so we can act on it. If you are unsure about anything at all please do approach an officer.
The Brit Awards is a huge event for Manchester and we look forward to welcoming everyone who is visiting the city as part of the wider celebrations.”
Police said officers will be present to provide security and assistance throughout the evening.
