At around 4am on Monday 15 July, Sebastian Jones launched a violent attack against a 41 year old man in Oldham town centre after a night out.
Jones is captured on CCTV leaving a night club, before doubling back and heading toward the victim. He punched the victim, causing him to fall to the ground where he continued to assault him.
Members of the public called the police and upon arrival, the victim was on the floor with serious injuries to his head. Emergency services administered first aid, but the victim left the scene and returned home.
Later that day, he was admitted to hospital in a critical condition.
A warrant was executed at an address on Dickens Street, but Jones was actively evading police. A manhunt was launched to locate Jones, and seven days later, he was arrested in Bury, Greater Manchester, and was swiftly charged and remanded with S18 assault.
Following a three day trial Manchester Crown Court which concluded in January 2025, Sebastian Jones (09/02/1988) of Dickens Street, Oldham, was found guilty. He was sentenced to seven years imprisonment this week.
Detective Superintendent Walker from our Oldham district said: “The level of violence displayed by Jones was completely unacceptable and cowardly. The victim was defenceless on the ground, and Jones carried out a sustained attack, causing significant injuries which have left a lasting impact on the victim and his family. Greater Manchester Police will not tolerate any form of violence.’’
“After the savage assault, he actively evaded police and showed no remorse for his actions. He is now rightly facing the consequences of his behaviour.”
